Pool Construction Process in Sarasota, Florida: 12 Steps from Design to Swim-Ready
Your backyard will go through a 12-step process to convert it from its current condition to the backyard of your dreams. Pool Creations (license CPC1458354) has been building custom pools in Sarasota, Venice, and Southwest Florida since 2013. Here's exactly what to expect.
Step 1: Pool Design
Pool Creations will set up an appointment for a consultation where we will gather detailed information regarding your needs. We will then create a rendering using the most advanced 3D design software available: Pool Studio. This allows you to see exactly what your pool will look like before we break ground. Visit our [Design Center](/design-center) to explore finish and feature options before your consultation.
Step 2: Layout
Once the design is approved and the contract is signed, our team will lay out the pool shape on your property using stakes and string lines. This gives you a physical representation of the pool footprint before excavation begins.
Step 3: Excavation
Our excavation crew will dig the pool shell to the exact dimensions specified in the design. Excavation typically takes one to two days depending on pool size and soil conditions.
Step 4: Steel Construction
After excavation, our steel crew installs the rebar framework that gives the pool its structural strength. All steel work is inspected by the county building department before proceeding. Pool Creations carries a 10-year structural warranty on all new pool construction.
Step 5: Gunite
Gunite (pneumatically applied concrete) is shot over the steel framework to form the pool shell. This is the structural backbone of your pool and must cure for several days before the next phase begins. See our [concrete vs. fiberglass comparison](/compare/concrete-vs-fiberglass) to understand why gunite pools are the standard in Southwest Florida.
Step 6: Plumbing
All plumbing lines, returns, skimmers, main drains, and equipment connections, are installed and pressure tested before being buried.
Step 7: Utilities & Equipment
Electrical conduit and bonding wire are installed to connect pool equipment to your home's electrical system. All electrical work is performed by licensed electricians and inspected by the county. We install Pentair variable-speed pumps, heaters, and [automation systems](/pool-automation) as part of every new pool build.
Step 8: Coping & Tile
Coping (the cap around the pool edge) and waterline tile are installed. Pool Creations offers travertine, paver, and bullnose coping options along with a full selection of waterline tile. See our [travertine vs. concrete pavers comparison](/compare/travertine-vs-concrete-pavers) for guidance on the most popular choice in Southwest Florida.
Step 9: Deck
The pool deck is formed and poured or paved depending on the material selected. Pool Creations installs travertine, porcelain pavers, and concrete deck systems. Explore [custom pool features](/custom-features) to see deck, water feature, and outdoor kitchen options.
Step 10: Screen Cage (if applicable)
If a screen enclosure is included in your project, it is installed after the deck is complete. See our [screen enclosure vs. open pool comparison](/compare/screen-vs-open) for the pros and cons of each option in Florida's climate.
Step 11: Safety Fence / Alarms
Florida law requires a barrier around all residential pools. Pool Creations installs temporary safety fencing during construction and coordinates permanent barrier installation before final inspection.
Step 12: Interior Surface
The final step is the application of the interior finish: PebbleTec, StoneScapes, or other premium surface selected during the design phase. After the surface is applied, the pool is filled and the startup process begins. Your pool is typically swim-ready within 28 days of surface application. See our [PebbleTec vs. StoneScapes comparison](/compare/pebble-tec-vs-stonescapes) to choose the right finish for your pool.
